I wrote this for for an assignment in my english class and I thought I'd post it. It was fun to come up with. The assignment was What have you lost? And you were supposed to write things you've lost using detailed imagery. Hopefully its detailed enough for my professor but it seems with an assignment like that it can be so dark and depressing and I tried really hard to make mine light. So at this time I hope you enjoy "Lost: An Inventory" by Me!
As a wife and mother
I have lost many things.
It all started with
An Incredible man!
He was a magician performing
A disappearing act with
My fears and inhibitions.
The desire to do mundane
Daily task bought a one-way
Ticket to Mexico.
The dreams of visiting far off
Places fade like mirages
In the hot desert.
My keys played hide-n-seek
For 3 days, giggling in a
Corner of the couch while
I tore apart my house.
Like the calm before the
Storm, all is quiet but
My temper is brewing.
My money goes from hand
To hand, traveling the
World and never once
Sending me a postcard.
Ideas of the future are
Trapped in a broken
Crystal ball.
Library books sneak away
In the night, scurrying
To hide from my
Ever reaching grasp.
My sanity gets locked away
In a closet in the back
Of my mind. Someone has
Taken the key.
The anxiety falls from
My shoulders like lumps
Of clay as I run down the trail,
Carefree for the moment.
But through it all
Love always shines.
This is why I’ll never
Lose my sense of humor.
