Let the summertime fun commence!

Memorial Day weekend, the (un)official Opening Ceremonies of the Summer!

Pools are opening, Old Navy sells their cheap flip flops and Home Depot and other gardening stores’ sales go through the roof. There is nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass or the wet dog smell emanating from our children at the end of the day!

It is the wondrous time of BBQs, sprinklers and 50 year old women dressing like 15 year olds to show off their creepy addiction to tanning beds and the “appearance” of youth and fertility. Ew. But I really like the BBQs and sprinklers part.

Summer brings that carefree feeling of a warm summer night, looking over the twinkling lights of the city or driving around town with the windows rolled down and Metallica Kenneth Cope blaring from that wicked car stereo. The days were spent lathered in cocoa butter/Crisco to get the perfect tan after sleeping in till 11.

This weekend, I commemorated a new and fresh summer by seeing a late night movie with girlfriends which is always a must no matter the season! We took the kids to Gardner Village and went to their overpriced but fun petting zoo. It was a similar to paying for Disneyland and getting Lagoon but it was cute nonetheless.

This was Lily’s first horse ride and I swear they were enjoying this more than how it looks!

Lily loves animals! She was hugging every animal there she could get her hands on! She even carried around one of the chickens for a little bit.

Another attempt at getting a picture of all 3 together. I have about 4 others like this. I’m thinking it’s impossible to get a real decent one.

We also enjoyed my parents back yard with cousins and water and that is always a perfect mix!

The only mistake I made in my own personal “Opening Ceremony of Summer” was…….trying on a swimsuit. It was a great reminder of why I haven’t bought one in over 9 years.

But hey, summer will come whether I have a decent swimsuit(or body) or not so bring it on! I’ve got my roasting sticks, weenies and marshmallows ready and waiting!!

Now, where did I put that Metallica Kenneth Cope CD?????

The Gardiner Village petting zoo is the price of a small country!! And Kenneth Cope...ahem...well, you just enjoy your "tunes" this summer, my friend :)
