**Little update: Apparently things are better now with the person I offended. I just kinda left it alone and he/she is talking to me again so I am very happy about that!! I hope things will continue to be okay! :)
So as you may remember (I'm sure it's been etched in your brain!), I recently went to the doctor. I went away a bit frustrated as you may imagine. Something was just bugging me about it all. I really felt like it was more than I just need to stop putting food in my mouth. I'm tired, sore, sad and moody all the time (I know, I'm a total party!!). I have dizzy spells and it is painful to wake up in the morning. I feel like an 80 year old sometimes because all I have to do is sit on a soft chair and I fall asleep!
Anyway, I called the doctor's office back to see if I could just get a blood test without having to see the doc again and pay another copay. They let me come in and they tested my hormones and my thyroid. Well, guess what-it's my thyroid's fault!! I knew it!! I actually had read an article in Prevention Magazine that said it's easy to misdiagnose certain things that may actually be a symptom of something else. One of the things it listed was depression and that it could be more than just that. It could be a thyroid problem or even sleep apnea. That's what made me just buck up and call back. I was to the point that I was checking out Fibromyalgia because I felt so awful! I am so glad to know what's up and that is isn't Fibromyalgia!! I still need more information and I will be going into the doctor soon to see how the medication is working and hopefully get some more answers.
It's always weird when you get tested to see if something is wrong and you are excited to know that there is something! I think it's just because it means you aren't crazy, well unless that's what you were getting tested then you're just screwed but you get some awesome meds and maybe even some "quiet time" in a nice, soft padded room....aaaahhhhhh.....! ;)
I am thinking that sugar might have an adverse effect on either the condition or the medication to correct it-which really goes against my lifestyle!! I've just noticed that on days where I have more sugar than I should I feel even more awful then ever! I just can't seem to kick that habit! I think I will abstain and then 20 minutes later I've eaten 7 cookies and seeing spots! Not good!!
So if any of you have any suggestions on how to abstain from sugar or any good info on hypothyroidism, things I should be doing, etc. It would be appreciated! As I said, I don't have a whole lot of info since it was the medical assistant who called me with the result and she didn't seem to know much about it at all!

Bum deal, Mindi! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 5 years ago. I totally thought I was pregnant because that was the only time I ever felt that exhausted. I suspected it my be hypothyroidism because it runs in my family. I was actually relieved to know it was hypothyroidism because Gavin was only about 9 months old.
I take a pill every day of my life for the rest of my life. The doctor checks my levels once a year. I think. I had it checked more often when I was pregnant. Hypothyroidism is an autoimmune disorder like my type 1 diabetes. It makes you tired, cranky, and put on extra weight. Those symptoms pretty much go away when it's controlled. That's about all I know about it. Good luck. Punch that nurse for me for calling you fat! Tell her you have a legitimate reason!
First, I'm glad I gave you that subscription to Prevention. Let me just pat myself on the back for getting your condition treated. Second, great job on figuring out the link thing so we can click "doctor" to see your previous post on that CRAZY lady Doctor of yours! You are a blogging genius. Third, I have the solution to not eating so much sugar. Just call your lady Doctor and she will back me up. QUIT EATING CAKE, CANDY, AND COOKIES. Simple as that. I have NO problems at all with eating junk food. HAHAHA...anyone who knows me, knows this third point was just a bunch of jibberish! I think they need to adjust your medication so you can have relief of your symptoms AND eat sugar. I'll stop typing now, I think I've rambled on enough!
I'm glad they figured out what it is!
I totally get the glad you have "something" and not crazy thing! I have kicked sugar since a little before Thanksgiving. I consumed enough sugar on a daily basis to choke a dinosaur. I just decided I was done. I wish I had more of a formula than that. The longer you don't eat it, the easier it gets though.
I'm so glad they figured it all out, can help you with it! I agree, sometimes it's nice to have SOMETHING so you can treat it and get back to life.
As far as the sugar thing, I'm an addict too. I actually decided last night that I was going to be anorexic, but then today I couldn't resist the 8" hot ham and cheese and large greesy fry that was tempting me at the Philidelphean. Food makes me angry, especially sugar, because it's such a drug! The more sugar you eat, the crappier you feel, and the more you crave it.
Good luck with everything! When you come up with a no more sugar solution, pass it on!
one of my good friends has dealt with her thyroid for years (she eventually had to have it removed) so i can get you guys in touch with each other if you'd like. as for the sugar thing, since every time i look at a plate of cookies i think "there's a plateful of heart palpitations!" maybe you can do the same "hey, there's a plateful of hypothyroid symptoms!" it seems to help me. also, i have turned to cheese. don't look in my purse, you're likely to find a block of cheddar in there...
I'm glad you figured it out--- what's my excuse? When you discover how to avoid the sweets, let me know. I made cookies for my Sadie's pre-school, and just HAD to have two (or three, or four?) to make sure they were okay for the kids.
Okay, after I left my first comment, I went looking for a more appropriate- not so tight swimsuit online-- Land's End. It has an option that you can "try it on" and there is a little model with your measurements-- let's just say that I lost my appetite. This might not work for you as your measurements might not be as robust as mine, but I think it might work for a day or two to curb my cookie bingeing.
Mindi I am glad you took matters into your own hands. Sometimes Doctors are frustrating. You are an inspiration. I have been feeling the same. I am sure mine is old age, cuz I'm old!!!!! I'm glad that your getting it taken care of.
I'm glad your being treated! feel better...K
