So, I did the unimaginable today. I quit my high paying job!!! YEAH!!! For those of you who don't know I am a crossing guard. I sub for other crossing guards so I never know when I am going to work. It really is a great part time job but I was so tired of trying to figure out the situation with my kids and when I wasn't working I realized how much I liked not working. It has taken me weeks to muster up the courage to do this-I have the nicest and most easiest boss to work with so I didn't want to let her down but I realized why am I doing something that I don't really want to be doing if I don't have to? My work ethic? I have enough work to prove my good work ethic and its okay to let go of one of the things on my plate. I'm working till Thanksgiving but after that I will be a slightly more free woman!! Yeah!!
ElRey went down to our basement bathroom, found the floor wet, which we thought we had fixed, and the cursed mouse sitting in the corner!!! We haven't had anything in our traps yet but I haven't seen any mouse poop either so I thought maybe it just went away but there he was....grrrr... Now I have to tackle our 'storage room'(bedroom where we have started throwing things to get out of the way) just to make sure its clean under all the stuff....wah....
Which brings me to another subject. This will be the last official apology I will ever give on the subject so spread the word to all since I am going to try to not apologize again for it. I am sorry that my house is rarely clean!! I feel like whenever someone comes to my home I need to apologize for it. For the record 2 things-1. I am not a good housekeeper! I like my home to be clean but I don't like to do it. I keep blaming the "cleaning fairies" for drinking in the morning and that's why its not done-its their fault!! 2. I am almost always trying to get it to a happy clean place but as I go along I am cleaning the 14 messes Annie makes and the 3 or 4 everyone else makes along the way. So to all that may one day enter my home-I am sorry, I try! And we will just leave it at that! I wonder if I ever had a bigger house if it would be easier to keep it clean. Those of you who have moved to bigger and better will need to let me know if my theory is sound. That would make me smile.
Lastly, there is a word I think needs to come back and I am going to try to use in my daily vocab. I am sure I will have many opportunities to do so. The insult "What a maroon" needs to come back! Remember when Bugs Bunny would say that about Elmer Fudd or Wiley E. Coyote, Super Genius after he had foiled them once again. Just think of it, you're driving along, someone cuts you off and you say "What a maroon!" Classic!! I am totally bringing that back, you watch!!
P.S. Don't forget to vote, tomorrow! Good Luck CA. on Prop 8, let's hope many in favor of it go to the polls!!!

Dang my kids could really benefit from the what a maroon line in the car! Right now I am training them to be sailors and that's not working out to0 well...I have friends out in CA and they have been out on the street holding signs this week for prop 8. They have had water bottles thrown at them and bleach!! Can you believe it? I am so appreciative for everyone out on the front lines standing up for what's right :)
I got the bigger home and NO it is NOT easier to keep clean. In fact it is the oppposite! Now my kids have more space to drag and dump their belongs through, more vaccuuming, more dusting, more mopping, etc. I am SOOO grateful for my home but there are days that I miss cleaning my 1 bedroom appartment! And for the record, I have a theory that most people have messy houses and the 5% of people with clean houses are ruining it for the rest of us!!!
I hardly expect your house to be perfect with three kids. Oh wait, I have three kids and my house isn't perfect either. I am just always tickled to come and see you guys so when we do I am not even looking at your floors, your walls or your mice. LOL! Sorry to hear about your pesky "pet" problem living in your bathroom. If you name him it makes things more fun. On my mission we named all of our spiders we didn't hate them nor the Elders we named them after much after that. And no we never killed them either. LOL!
Congrats on quitting your job. You deserve to relax.
Congrats on quitting. You're right, why do something you don't enjoy if you don't have to!
I am also in a bigger house. I can't even be proud of it because I rent. Rent is nearly 3 times what my mortgage in UT was! I have lived in this bigger house for over a year. I can't keep it clean. At first I thought I needed time to get used to a bigger house and being pregnant didn't help. But my baby is 8 months old and I still can't keep my house clean! I am slowly letting go of the illusion that my house needs to be clean for people. 3 kids and a husband make cleaning not worth it some days.
Mindi, you are not alone in the house cleaning issue. At night before I fall asleep I fantasize about a day when all my closets are organized, and not toys everywhere (Yeah, that is kind of messed up that those are my fantasies, but whatever.) I blame the children. I also blame my father, from him I have gained a healthy appreciation of having fun, and sometimes the dishes can wait, darn it, because I need to have some fun. Cut yourself a little slack, I think there are lots of us out there who don't have our houses as clean as we would like. Now that you have quit your job, too, maybe we can be December friends! :)
Don't feel bad about the house cleaning thing. I am always beating myself up about how I should be able to keep my house clean all the time and it doesn't matter what I do, it's never as clean as I would like it to be. Oh well! Life is too short....right??? I hope prop 8 goes through as well. Kenny's family all live in CA and that's all they have been talking about lately. It's sad that they have to vote on that...crazy what the world is coming to.
