I love having spontaneous friends. I have one I know I can always count on to drop everything and do something we’ll probably regret fun with the kids. My spontaneity may come to a halt this coming May so I was glad to have the opportunity to drop everything and take off for a couple days to St. George, Utah (yes, that is where High School Musical 2 was filmed. I walked where Zac Efron walked. I know. Lucky.) sans children and responsibility. It took everything in me to not drag State St. on Friday night or buy a t-shirt that says “Just Do Me” on it, since nothing says classy like a “Just Do Me” t-shirt. See?
St. George, 1992
Yup. Pure class.
Anyway, along with the memories I came away learning a few things from this trip. And guess what? I’m gonna share them with you. You are so lucky.
* I pride myself on being very low maintenance (whatever my BFF, Amber, says about the trip pictured above is a lie, first impressions are often wrong. Just sayin. And she adores me now so I couldn’t have been that bad, right? Right??). I once took a long trip to Mexico in a short bus with nothing but a backpack full of undies, swimsuit and towel and a sleeping bag. There is nothing like a road trip at 6+ months pregnant that will make you feel very high maintenance! “What if I have to pee every hour?”, “I need a lot of room so I don’t get a blood clot..”, “I need to eat regularly or I start dry heaving”, “Can I bring a body pillow?” “How much can I sleep?”, “You want me up when??”
You get the idea.
I think I did okay, though. I hope…I totally didn’t even dry heave once!
* There are some stories you should never, ever, ever, ever share. You will never live it down. No matter how tired, comfortable or hopped up on allergy medicine you may be, think twice before you share.
* Cameras just really are not my friend right now. My friend had the waiter take our picture at The Brick Oven. I looked like I ate The Brick Oven. I kept trying to hide fractions of my face in each photo since I usually looked like a surprised blowfish. Who ate a whale. Another shot, I thought my cleavage was eating my head. Cameras are rude. And now I’m hungry.
*I was very glad to learn that I actually missed my kids. I know that sounds horrible but there are days where I am pretty sure I could walk out the door and never come back. I was glad to know I really would come back…eventually..
* I am so lucky! Not only do I have friends that want to spend an entire weekend with me, but I have a husband that made it possible for me to go. And it was our 11th anniversary. Not only did he willingly me send me off, I came home to the carpets freshly cleaned, the floor mopped and the house clean and very happy, spoiled-with-daddy’s-love kids! Yes, I owe him some major snuggling.
It was a very successful trip overall. Not only did I come home recharged but wiser, too. I’m sure by this Friday I will be back to crazy psycho mom and even a little dumber but it was definitely worth the trip.
And the cankles were totally worth it!

Just Do Me?
Why am I not suprised?!
HA HA
glad you had a fun trip! :)
Lol! That shirt. Glad you had fun and I am 100% jealous
Aw, it was the best! I loved spending time with you-you are the funniest pwrson on the planet. And your secrets are safe with me :)
Your great husband comes from good blood!
I'm glad you got to have fun for a bit in the George!
Wow! My brother is the BOMB! I didnt' know he had that in him...where were his cleaning skills back when we were kids...LOL!! I am so glad you had fun and that had to be one hell of an anniversary present!
I'm glad you had a chance to get away! I often say that I need a reason to 'miss' my kids!
Let's set the record straight here...You had a "guest house" all to yourself on the original St. George "Just Do Me" trip and from what I hear, you had the only bedroom with its own bathroom on this last St. George trip. Seems a bit high maintenance. We waited for hours, with hairspray wafting out of that "guest house" for you and your bangs to be ready!
Seriously though...that trip was the start of a beautiful friendship! And you really are NOT high maintenance!
Is that your brother that you are hugging? It is always nice to know you have friends who let you poop in their yard, figuratively speaking of course (oh, and literally when camping).
Did you even understand that shirt in '92? So glad you got to get away for a moment. You may need to give those memories a revisit now and then over the next few months.
Aw cankles :) Sure miss them.
What a nice husband you have! And that sounds like a wonderful, very low maintenance vacation.
Awwww, a weekend getaway? I want one!
Happy for you that you got one. Sounds like a win-win. Get away AND a clean home when you return. Whats not to love about that.
