The words “Watch this!” There is something about hearing your child say these words, knowing you will watch 15 minutes of, “Oops, wait. That wasn’t it…” The best is when all three children are saying it while flailing themselves around my tiny living/family/entertainment/let’s see how many people can be crammed into this room room. Of course, Lily’s version of “watch this” is “mommommommommommom” while I say, “whatwhatwhatwhatwhatwhatwhat”.
Latex gloves + food industry employees. While I think wearing gloves while preparing food for the masses is a great idea, I do not condone handling doors, cash registers, money and probably picking your nose with those same gloved hands. I do believe it defeats the purpose. Am I right? I often wonder if they even bother washing their hands, “hey, I am wearing gloves anyway, why wash??”
Going full time in school while being a mom. I love being a student-opening my cranial doors to more knowledge, meeting new people and I love being a mom (mostly), changing diapers, reading stories, getting to know new little people as they grow into adulthood. The only problem is, these two great things do not mix well. They are like oil and water. If you shake them up they mix but only for a few short moments before science and chemistry (is that chemistry? I don’t know seeings how I failed it…) pulls them apart. That’s okay. I am managing. I wouldn’t say I am managing well but it’s working on some level. My friend, Karlie, who did the full time student/mom thing, told me when I started, “Take random pictures of your kids during this time. You won’t remember how they were if you don’t.” That hurts my blood pumper but I am trying to balance it all the best I can. I know this is what I should be doing, and I wouldn’t change it for anything but I just need to figure out that whole time-management thing.
Bathroom hand dryers. I always thought they were such a sanitary and less wasteful way to dry your hands. That is until my BFF showed me the light. Now all I think about when those are on is all the poo particles being blown on my hands and in the air. It totally changes that scene in Desperately Seeking Susan, doesn’t it??
Thanks for that, Amber.
Speaking of fanship or the lack there of, whenever I am on Facebook, I wonder if I am less of a Mormon if I am not a fan of “LDS Missionaries” or “LDS Temples” or at least 3 apostles and 1 prophet, preferably the living one. Will that one day be on the Temple Recommend Interview Questions? (Although, I have no problem with other people becoming ‘fans’-see?? Even on Facebook you are more righteous than me!)
“Have you properly shown your loyalty to the Church through Facebook?”
“Um…what does that have to do with my testimony and my worthiness, Bishop?”
“I’m sorry, Sis. Jeppson, I’ve noticed you aren’t a fan of Elder Uchtdorf or “Ward Temple Night” on Facebook. Come back in six months and we’ll see if we can get you temple worthy by then.”
I’m just sayin.

Great post! I am not a fan of bathroom hand dryers either as they just don't work fast enough.. and now thanks I don't think I will ever want to use them.
I don't get "watch this" I get "MOM, Listen toooooo MEEEEEEE"
:)
I don't think I'd even be a fan of Jesus on facebook ... does that make me a bad person? I just think it belittles us all when we proclaim our devotion for sacred things that way (look at me, all pious. I suck).
I refuse to be a "fan" of most everything LDS oriented on Fb. I think it shows people don't fully understand how we worship in this religion if they become a "fan" of the prophet, or a "fan" of the Book of Mormon! These are not things we "like" or "think are cool"---these are people we listen to, follow, and respect, or a book we read and read and study and study to learn from---not become a "fan" of. Oh--and I certainly won't become a fan of Jesus. I do think I linked to a LDS group page --perhaps one "fan" of the overall church--but otherwise I think "Um...kay...I think not!"
So--I think it shows you "get" how we are supposed to worship if you refuse to become a "fan" on-line.
Mary P. (grew up with your husband).
I'm not a good Mormon either then, because I am not a fan of anything LDS on FB. I guess I am not showing my loyalty enough - either that or I am not using FB to it's fullest potential.
The gloves thing - so totally agree with you. I always wonder the same thing.
Never thought of poop particles. Now I am going to every time - Thanks Mindi for that. Just what I needed.
Wow! So not being on facebook at all, does that mean I'm on the fast track to hell? And thanks for the hand dryer image...oh yes, thank you for that. Sorry the mom/student thing is tough. If anyone can pull it off though, YOU can! Hang in there :)
You were on fire with this one. I don't even know where to start.
The hey mom, watch this is classic! usually it's worst at the public pools. 100 kids all screaming the same thing.
I will never blow poop off my hands again.
The Facebook thing is my absolute favorite. I never knew there was someone else who was brave enough to separate Church and FB like me.
I'm emailing you my Facebook name. Find me and friend me if you so desire. If not, I won't cut myself, don't worry ~running for a blade~
Mindy,
You made me giggle out loud.
I so agree with the gloves thing. You're spot on!
And can we just say I'm with youon the whole FB/church issue. I think in general that there are too many "fans" of the prophet, apostles, Book of Mormon etc. and not enough people actually following the counsel of the above. Maybe there would be less hours clocked on FB if we were all making more of an effort than becoming "fans". Hmmm....o.k. not trying to offend, I'm just sayin'.
I have no children say "watch this" however, I'm sure I wouldn't be a fan! I am not a fan of facebook period! I get tired of people throwing things at me! I don't want to harvest their *@$%
crops! I think becomeing a "fan" of sacred things is inappropriate for a puplic forum such as that and can easily be political as well! (I don't think the two mix)
And...My mom went to college full time when I was a kid! I am no worse for the wear! So, even though you have to make some sacrifices ... it will all work out. I remember, she used to take us to a class she had on Saturday's and tell us to play right outside the window so she could see ... (we of course were a little older than your kids ...)
Anyway ... we lived through it :o)
You are amazing to try and juggle school/mommyhood! I am not really doing anything right now, but feeding a baby & taking my kids to school & I feel barley a float! So hats off to YOU!
And yeah, I am pretty sure you are going to be denied a recommend without at LEAST 3 apostle & 1 prophet "fans!"
HA HA HA HA! You make me laugh Mindi! I LOVE IT
Keep in mind, Cass, I would have never done this just after having my 3rd! I couldn't do anything! Right now that's all you can do is 'float'!
