It’s true. I really am. And for so many reasons! But today I am talking about 2 specific reasons.
First, I am daughter to this guy!
His name is Dave Thomas! No, not the comedian and not the founder of Wendy’s. This one is better! This is Dr. Thomas, professor, Institute Teacher, Elvis impersonator, published writer and genius we all love!
He may not know how to work a microwave but he adores my mom and gave us all an awesome childhood of adventures, classic movies and laughter. He’s even ran two marathons and to the top of Masada up the Serpentine Trail (the tour guide was very upset with him!)!
Not only has he seen the world, he has learned about each place and could tell you all about it as though he was a local. He even survived Hurricane Wilma in the Yucatan back in 2005.
Here is a tribute to my daddy I wrote last fall for my writing class:
Daddy
Daddy, you have always been there,
I was never turned away.
You gave me all I need
And continue every day.
You taught me to ride my bike,
How a boy should treat a girl,
You kept me safe from danger,
And fought it even when
The danger was your little girl.
You showed me there were
No dragons out there,
You introduced me to Presidents
Made of stone
And a real live Indian
Who told us of his home.
The movies were our favorite
From aliens and ghosts to Indy.
Even now I’m sure those ghosts,
Clowns and wheelchairs
Are all after Mindi.
Daddy, you paved my path
You made me want to learn
The great goal of knowledge
For which I always yearn.
You made me want more
Then just the ABC’s.
I’m Lucky in Love with
A man just like you,
He’s sensitive, sweet and loving.
The only difference is he
Knows how to use the tools.
He is teaching our girls
How to ride a bike,
How a boy should treat a girl.
He keeps them safe from danger,
Even when the danger is your little girl.
Because you taught me love
And determination and strength,
I know I can make it through
Any challenge that I face.
I know that I am strong
Because I came from you.
So, the second thing I am lucky to have is my love for my kids’ daddy! This guy:
He is the best dad my girls will ever have! He is hard working, loving, kind and fun(ny)!! I am so glad I duped him into thinking he was marrying a catch! MWAHAHAHA!! Now he has to stick around for the sake of our girls!! He works so hard to make it so mom can be home and slowly give the children plenty of mental issues to share with their therapists!
Because of my dad’s awesome example I got this:
And I will gladly share him with our daughters!
Happy Father’s Day to the greatest guys in my life!!

Loved that poem about your dad! So wonderful!
I have a similar tribute that I will be posting on Sunday.
And you know I bet your husband is very happy to be stuck with you :)
Wow! Your dad sounds awesome and you are an amazing writer. Maybe I will copy and paste it onto my blog. (of course, I will have to tell people that you stole it from me..sorry:)
Very sweet! Can I send that to my Dad too?!
P.S. Why did you post a picture of Jeff?!!
You are so great! What a fun tribute to your dad and your man. :)
How cute! I love that picture of your daddy. He looks like a happy go lucky kind of guy...someone who would be your daddy. :)
Seriously. Is that a picture of Jeff??!! Am I the only one that thinks it's uncanny?
I know, right?! It is a little disturbing! That really is my dad! We should put glasses on Jeff and take a picture of him in black and white and compare!
