A Black Thumb

I’ve always wanted the gardens around my house to look like this:

Instead, they look like this:

Yeah, those are weeds, not “ground cover”. Every year I plan to make it beautiful and low maintenance. Every year this is what I get.

I always wanted a vegetable garden Karlie or Donatella would be jealous of. Something like this:

Instead I have this:

Note the dead zucchini plants. Who kills zucchini plants?? I didn’t know that was even possible! We have a great harvest of morning glory, though! And to be fair, our peppers and cucumbers are doing pretty good. We also have a hanging tomato plant that is doing okay. But come on! This is just ridiculous! Maybe the zucchini committed suicide out of embarrassment.

I hear having nice gardens take work but I think that’s just silly. It should just be as easy as hiring a gardener. Maybe that gardener from Desperate Housewives (not that I would EVER watch such a trashy show!! Well, maybe 3 or 4 times but that’s it!)…hmmmm…I wonder if he’s available…

PS- Although I am still sad about my roosters, I was able to comfort myself with a rotisserie chicken from Macey’s and 3 new hens. Things are much quieter now and my feet are safe from that wicked beak!

Pretty garden pictures taken from here  and here.

Well, good news! I'm about to make you feel a whole lot better.

I LOVE that first garden picture- not only are the plants gorgeous, they're waterwise. I also want my borders to look like picture A. They don't. Not even close.

I also have an awesome veggie patch complete with drip irrigation and raised beds. It's a 'french pottager' style garden. I have all the 'bones' in place to make it gorgeous- and instead it looks pretty much like yours. My zuchinni plants never even made it into the garden. They died sitting in the little plastic nursery thingies.

And why should this make you feel better (besides the obvious 'you're not alone')? Because I am a Landscape Architect! How embarrassing is THAT????

I'm glad you put those pictures of my beautiful flower garden on your blog!

I agree, at least you have a garden. I think you're doing well. Plus, the fresh farm eggs! Who are you kidding, you are a natural born farmer!

I once dreamt of marrying Peter Lassig (he's the gardener responsible for the SLC temple grounds!) Only 'cuz I wanted the ever popular beautiful yard that everyone envy's!
Instead I have a toilet that still leaks, a house that smells like potty, a cat that wants to play fetch at 2 am, no air conditioning and honey, I have pictures of gardens both flower and vegetable that I can kill by just looking at them! ... So cry me a river!

Someone suggested to me to leave any unwanted zuchinnis on the front seat of your cars @ church...that would keep the car theifs away!!!

We are all given 24 hours in a day and just because we choose to take our kiddies hiking instead of hoeing and weeding is a good choice, I think! Actually, I only have 15 hours in my day because I need all the beauty sleep I can get!
